Highlights include a two-week cruise in the Azores, summiting the 7,500-foot Pico, cruising the West Coast of Scotland, Shetland & Fair Isle, and a North Sea crossing to Mia’s home country of Sweden.
Andy Schell & his wife Mia Karlsson own & operate the classic Swan 48 ‘Isbjorn’ - that’s Swedish for ‘Polar Bear’ - offering folks the opportunity to crew on long-distance ocean passages around the world, including passages in the Arctic, the Canadian Maritimes, Caribbean, trans-Atlantic, South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand & beyond, through their business 59 North, Ltd. Andy grew up sailing his mom & dad's boat's, all called 'Sojourner', on the Chesapeake Bay. During his 4th-grade, they sailed south as a family and spent the winter cruising the Bahamas. Andy has logged over 50 000 miles on a variety of boat from the 74' Schooner Woodwind to his and Mia's Swan 48 Isbjorn, including 3 Atlantic Crossings.
