Sailing South Labrador

Sailing South Labrador

In this year’s slide-show/presentation Jayne and Mike prepare Phanty to launch at bustling Lewisporte Yacht Club on Newfoundland’s beautiful Notre Dame Bay. After Pot Luck celebrations & fun kitchen parties at LYC, they set out in the company of local boats Showa and Lola to explore harbours of The Bay of Exploits and Notre Dame.  Leaving the protected waters of Notre Dame behind, Jayne and Mike pilot Phantasia up The Great Northern Peninsula to St Anthony. They round Cape Bauld and cross The Straight of Belle Isle to visit the abandoned outport at Labrador’s Henley Harbour. Battle Harbour’s wharf and excellent dining room is welcome after encountering fog and icebergs on the route there. They visit Mary’s Harbour Labrador and attend the town’s “Crab Fest”, complete with snow crab buffet and fireworks. After rafting up with John and Phyllis on Morgans Cloud in Occasional Harbour, it’s on to explore more of the astounding beauty and solitude of South Labrador: Lord and Lady Arm, Domino Run, Caplin Bay, Punchbowl, Port Charlotte, Charlottetown, Porcupine Harbour and the former whaling station of Hawkes Harbour. They provision and explore South Labrador’s regional centre at Cartwright then set sail home to LYC.
