Boat Buying Basics: How To Buy Your First Boat
This 50 minute seminar will talk about working through a dealer or broker and how they can help you choose the right boat for you and your family. We will discuss the benefits of getting a marine survey and what to do, why and when to get marine insurance, vessel licensing, education opportunities and required operator certification for powered vessels and the use of marine radios. At the end of the session there will be time to ask questions and talk to the four presenters who collectively have well over 100 years of experience in the boating industry.
John Gullick is the Manager of Government and Special Programmes for Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons and is a power boater and sailor who has been teaching boating, sailing and paddling skills since he was a teenager.
Barry Goodyear has been a marine surveyor since 1980 owns Ra Kon Marine Surveyors and although based out of Innisfil, ON, travels throughout Canada and the U.S. Barry received his hands on experience with the family marina and is A.B.Y.C certified. Barry is qualified in all aspects of surveying, sea trials, oil analysis, repair supervision and water deliveries.
Andrew Robertson is Vice President of The CG&B Group Marine Department responsible for the Skippers’ Plan boat program across Canada. He is a registered insurance broker and marine insurance specialist for over 20 years. In his spare time Andrew enjoys sailing on Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay.
Pat Sturgeon is a certified professional yacht broker who has owned & operated Pat Sturgeon Yachts since 1986. Pat Sturgeon Yachts is now one of the biggest boat brokerages in Ontario and they are dealers for JBoats and Hanse Group, including Hanse, Moody, Dehler and Varianta.
